There has already been much speculation this young NFL offseason concerning a potential marriage of the Dallas Cowboys and suspended Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
The Cowboys may lose last year's NFL leading rusher, DeMarco Murray, to free agency, and Peterson revealed recently that he's reticent to rejoin Minnesota after the lack of support he felt from some members of the front office during his suspension for child abuse.
"What I'm hearing is Adrian Peterson wants to go to Dallas, the Minnesota Vikings are aware of that," revealed Jason Cole of Bleacher Report. "In talking to a high level NFL executive, everybody knows what everybody wants."
Peterson, perhaps the best running back in football at the time of his suspension, dropped a potential hint of his interest in playing for his home-state Cowboys during a recent ESPN interview.
"I know there are a lot of people in the organization who want me back," Peterson said. "But then again, I know the ones who don't....I have a wife who was able to sit back and see how people in Minnesota said this and said that, how media in Minnesota took the head of the situation with my child, and were digging into things that weren't even relevant. That wasn't people in Texas -- it was people in Minnesota that dug in and brought things out."
Vikings team president Mark Wilf, GM Rick Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer have all said recently that they'd like to see Peterson return to the team next season - the 29-year-old is under contract with Minnesota for one more season at $12.75 million.
According to Cole, the Vikings have no interest in trading Peterson despite his massive cap hit.
"The Vikings will not and do not want to trade him in any way shape or form, specifically not to the Cowboys," said Cole. "Don't expect that to happen, at least from their end."
But if Peterson is intent on joining the Cowboys, the situation in Minnesota could quickly turn ugly.
"Peterson could make this very uncomfortable for the Vikings and create kind of a stare down situation."
