Now that Dwight Howard has gone to the Rockets, there is much talk of what the Lakers will do as a plan B. That Plan B could include a reunion with the forward Lamar Odom, according to the Los Angeles Times.
LA Times’ Mike Bresnahan reports, the Lakers are currently looking for players who have no choice but to take a minimum salary. Odom may be one of those players.
The 33-year old Odom brought in $8.2 million in the 2012-2013 season while with the Los Angeles Clippers. However, he may now have two options if he returns to the Lakers—taking the $1.4 million veteran’s minimum or the $3.2 million mid-level exception which the Lakers have.
Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles reported the possible reunion through her Twitter account.
“Lakers have reached out to Lamar Odom, but it been hard to determine how high interest level is on either side thus far,” she wrote.
Odom has had a great amount of success with the Lakers. He was a member of the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 Lakers teams which won back to back championships. In 2011 Odom won the Sixth Man of the Year award.
Odom can be an asset to any team. He is a big man that can handle the ball and is an exceptional passer. Odom can also step outside and knock down a three or play in the post. There are many who say while Odom has had some great years, he has not lived up to the potential that comes with his skills.
Last season with the Clippers, Odom averaged 4.0 points and 5.9 rebounds. He played in all 82 games during the regular season.
