Google's Self Driving Car: What Will The World Be Like Once The Technology Becomes Commonplace? (VIDEO)

It has been quite a while since Google announced the invention of its self-driving automobile. Although it's still in its test phase and is quite a ways away from being a part of the mainstream for drivers everywhere, it hasn't stopped many from speculating as to what the future will look like now that self driving cars actually exist.

According to The New York Times, Audi, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz all have plans for self-driving vehicles in the works for the upcoming years. Many even go as far as to claim that self-driving cars will become commonplace within the next decade. Meanwhile, Volvo has taken things a step further and introduced a car capable of parking itself in a busy lot. Imagine a world where your car could drive itself to your office, drop you off to the front door and then park itself until it's called back to pick you up at the end of the day.

This could also lead to less traffic lights and parking tickets as cars could become smart enough to navigate through a busy city without having to worry about parking in the wrong spot or being unaware of traffic hazards like pedestrians or other vehicles. Thanks to an all-encompassing sensor that is designed to pick up everything, such things would slowly phase out as self-driving cars take over the mainstream.

Forbes suggests that speed will become less of an issue as well. Currently, commuting time is dead time as drivers have to stay 100 percent focused on the road. However, if a car was capable of making long commutes on its own, cars with WiFi equipped to them would allow passengers the ability to be productive during that time, meaning that a few lost minutes here and there wouldn't be as big of an issue. Furthermore, it would end up being easier to calculate the time it will take to get to and from your regular locations.

While the self-driving car is still a ways away from being in your driveway any time soon, the possibilities are endless. What would you enjoy most about self-driving cars? Tell us about it in the comments below.
