Wesleyan University 'Molly' Emergency: 11 Students Hospitalized after Taking Bad Batch of Party Drug

A bad batch of the party drug "Molly" sent 10 Wesleyan University students and two visitors to the hospital Saturday night.

The 12 individuals were exhibiting symptoms of overdoses at a party at the Eclectic Society House, a co-ed group on campus, according to CBS News. Police said they responded to multiple calls for help. They believe the students and visitors may have received a bad batch of the pyschoactive drug also known as MDMA. The police said anyone with information regarding the batch is urged to call them so that the doctors can treat those affected.

Molly is a stimulant and a potent form of the illegal party substance Ecstasy, a popular substance at raves.

Wesleyan University said six of its students were receiving care at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Conn., where Wesleyan is located, The Guardian reported. Four other students went to Hartford Hospital for treatment.

Middlesex Hospital said it could not release the conditions of the students, but said no one was in critical condition. The hospital said the students were under observation in the emergency department, but were expected to be released Monday.

Wesleyan University President Michael Roth urged students to stay away from illegal substances, CBS News reported.

"One mistake can change your life forever," Roth said. "If you have friends who are thinking about trying these kinds of drugs, remind them of the dangers. If you are aware of people distributing these substances, please let someone know before more people are hurt."

Wesleyan University was founded in 1831, and only began admitting women permanently in 1970. It is one of the most expensive schools in the country. Tuition, room and board at the liberal arts college cost more than $62,000 during the last academic year.
