NASA Supports Dream of 7-Year Old Boy of Reaching for the Stars

NASA sent a response to a letter from a 7-year old boy who wanted to volunteer for a Mars mission.

A British boy named Dexter wrote a letter to NASA expressing his interest to be part of a mission to Mars after finding out that the agency is preparing a manned mission to the Red Planet. The seven-year old kid wanted to participate on the mission but aware that it will not happen anytime soon because he is still a child.

"I heard that you are sending two people to Mars and I would like to come but I’m 7 so I can't," Dexter wrote in the letter.

He also drew a space capsule which has two people inside. The space capsule is heading to the direction of a planet.

NASA's Office of Communications sent a letter response to Dexter supporting him of his dream. They advised the kid to study hard so that he could reach the stars someday.

"Just think — in a few years, you could be one of the pioneers that may help lead the world's activities for better understanding of our Earth and for exploring space," the letter states.

They also enclosed pictures of the Red Planet, the Mars Curiosity Rover, and a sticker and bookmark to further inspire the kid and remind him of his dream in the future. Katrina Anderson, Dexter’s mother, said to Huffington Post that her son was delighted with NASA’s response.

Anderson uploaded on an image-sharing site photos of her son’s letter as well as NASA’s response with the gifts. The post has been viewed about 162,092 times since its posting 14 hours ago.

Dexter should be able to pursue his dream someday once he graduates from college in any of the bachelor courses required by NASA as listed on the agency’s Astronaut Candidate Program
