Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff entered this NHL season with a reputation for standing pat at the NHL trade deadline and driving hard bargains in past deals.
So far this season, he's pulled off one massive blockbuster trade and now a second, less monumental but no less significant, deal.
It was announced Wednesday that the Jets had acquired forward Jiri Tlusty from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a third-round draft pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and a conditional sixth-round draft pick - which will become a fifth-round choice should the Jets make the playoffs this year - in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Michael Smith, web producer for the Hurricanes, revealed that Carolina did not retain any of Tlusty's 2014-15 salary in the deal.
The Jets had long been rumored to be in the market for a top-six forward and Cheveldayoff fulfilled that desire with the addition of the big winger.
"We appreciate everything that Jiri did for our team and our community during his time in Carolina, and wish him the best in Winnipeg," Hurricanes GM Ron Francis said in a statement announcing the move on the team's website.
The 26-year-old Tlusty is a veteran of 396 career NHL games with the Canes and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He has 165 career points - 86 goals, 79 assists - in eight NHL seasons.
He has 13 goals and 10 assists in 52 games this season.
His name, along with Hurricanes defenseman Andrej Sekera, had been bandied about in a variety of NHL trade rumors for months.
He, like Sekera, is a pending unrestricted free agent entering his NHL prime and looking to hit it big on his next contract.
