Rapper Chris Brown was denied entry into Canada just ahead of his planned shows in Montreal and Toronto.
"Unfortunately I will not be able to perform in front of sold out crowds in Montreal & Toronto," Brown tweeted Tuesday after he was denied entry into Canada. "The good people of the Canadian government wouldn't allow me entry. I'll be back this summer and will hopefully see all my Canadian fans!"
His posts were later deleted.
Authorities have not commented on the issue, but according to Ticketmaster the "Chris Brown with Trey Songz featuring Tyga: Between the Sheets Tour" in Toronto was cancelled because of "immigration issues."
The ticket seller's website said all fans will be issued refunds.
The "issues" stem back to Brown's criminal record from 2009 when he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna, reported GlobalNews.ca. The assault happened in the United States, but Canadian immigration law states that a person who "committed an act outside Canada that would be a crime" in Canada can be barred from entering.
Although many Canadian concert-goers were excited to see Brown perform, this was not the first time the rapper had to cancel a performance in the country due to immigration issues.
Brown was forced to pull out of Drake's OVO Festival in Toronto last summer, reported GolbalNews.ca. He was also forced to cancel tour dates in Halifax, Toronto, Saint John and Winnipeg because his sponsors backed out.
Nicole Perna, Brown's spokesperson, said in a statement that the Grammy-winning r&b singer will be able to return to Canada at a later date.
