When looking over panels scheduled for Comic-Con 2013 there is one glaring and obvious absence, Disney. Disney has decided to steer clear of Comic-Con which means that there won't be any huge revelations about "Star Wars: Episode VII" next week. Instead Disney is turning their focus on their own event, August's D23 Expo, and it looks like Star Wars will be at the forefront, according to ScreenCrush.
In their press release Disney never explicitly mentions "Star Wars: Episode VII" but it is unlikely that they would let such a big event go past without revealing something, especially if they are skipping Comic-Con. It has been previously mentioned that Disney would want to announce a possible return of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher with a big event, D23 would definitely qualify as that, reports ScreenCrush.
The press release form Disney explains all of the Star Wars related plans they have made public so far.
"For the first time at the D23 Expo, Star Wars fans can have access to experiences created for them by Lucasfilm and Disney. Darth Vader: The Evolution of a Villain, located in the DCP pavilion, showcases the development of the iconic villain from early concepts to striking realization. Crash Course in the Force: Star Wars Saga 101, presented by Lucasfilm's resident authority Pablo Hidalgo in Stage 23, will give Star Wars newbies and experts alike a thorough grounding in all matters of the Forces and the Star Wars Legacy."
While it's obvious that Disney is going to do everything they can to keep leaks from happening prior to the expo is it possible that Warwick Davis will be in attendance to announce a role in the upcoming film? The actor who appeared as an Ewok in "Return of the Jedi" and had a cameo in "The Phantom Menace" has expressed interest in appearing in the new film, according to Business Standard.
"You have to drop hints. I don't know whose ear to drop them in any more, but I think Kathleen Kennedy's quite a good start," Davis said. "I'd love to do it and the fact they're filming in England makes it much easier. I just think it would be wonderful to be connected to all three trilogies."
Davis doesn't want to reprise one of his old roles, the actor has tired of being a hero and would much rather explore the dark side of the Force if he were to return.
"A villain would be nice," Davis said. "Some sort of villainous character with a lightsaber. I'd enjoy that."
