Search warrants that led to Aaron Hernandez's arrest were released on Tuesday by a judge. The 150 pages contained details of how his fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, reacted upon hearing of Odin Lloyd's death and what she subsequently told police, USA Today Sports and the Associated Press reports.
Attleboro District Court Judge Daniel O'Shea granted a motion filed by several media organizations to unseal the impounded documents. The documents paint a clearer picture of what Jenkins told police about Hernandez and Lloyd.
Hernandez immediately acted suspicious when police arrived at his residence the day after Lloyd's body was discovered, according to the police report. Investigators initially sought to question Hernandez because car keys registered to the ex-NFL star were found in Lloyd's pocket.
The former Patriots player didn't initially come out when police knocked on his door. He eventually did meet the police outside. At some point, Hernandez asked, "What's with all these questions?" He fetched his attorney's business card and gave it to investigators, who then informed Hernandez they were investigating a homicide. Hernandez didn't appear concerned and never asked whose death. He slammed the door behind him and locked it.
Approximately 10 minutes later, he returned outside and told police that Jenkins would drive him to the station to answer their questions.
Police talked to Jenkins after she dropped her fiancé off at the station. They pulled her over and told her Lloyd was murdered - she immediately began to cry.
At some point, Jenkins told the investigators she believed Lloyd used and sold marijuana. She said Lloyd's phone was constantly ringing and that he spoke to the callers in a "lingo" that made her think the calls were about marijuana sales.
Jenkins told police she hadn't seen Lloyd in two days. When asked about June 16, the day before Lloyd's body was found, Jenkins said she and Hernandez had gone out to dinner for Father's Day. They returned early and she went to bed; she didn't know who Hernandez went out with or what time he returned.
As Jenkins described the events of June 16, Hernandez phoned her and instructed her, upon his agent's advice, to not speak to police. She complied.
