A Texas volunteer firefighter was dismissed Wednesday after he posted a Facebook photo reportedly showing the carcasses of his neighbor's dogs he shot dead, the Greenville Herald-Banner reported.
Tom Conaster, a volunteer firefighter for the Union Valley Fire Department, allegedly posted the image on Feb. 24. It shows what appears to be two dogs lying dead in a snow-filled yard.
"Somebody didn't put any truth my warning [sic]," reads the photo caption. "Keep your damn dogs on your property."
The Union Valley Volunteer Fire Department announced on its Facebook page the firefighter is no longer with them.
"We do not condone the recent actions of one of our firefighters," the department said. "We are following our policy in removing him from our department. This is now a civil/criminal matter that we have no jurisdiction over."
Hunt county law enforcement could bring animal cruelty charges against Conaster.
"I don't know why people post things on social media, but they do," County Sheriff Randy Meeks said, according to the station KETR.
Meeks said deadly force can be used against an animal but there has to be a threat to other animals or people on the property.
As for the dog owner, he found out his dogs were dead on social media.
"I'm in shock! I don't know, I don't understand these people," Pulido Rodrigo told Fox 4 News. "Bad people, I don't know."
