Harrison Ford has put in multiple turns as Indiana Jones and Han Solo. He'll soon reprise another role more than 20 years after the first movie.
The 72-year-old actor will star in the "Blade Runner" sequel, a follow-up to the 1982 sci-fi thriller. 'Prisoners' director Denis Villeneuve will succeed Ridley Scott to helm the second movie.
Alcon Entertainment made the announcement on Thursday, according to Variety. The sequel, written by Hampton Francher and Michael Green, will take place "several decades" after the first.
Ford will reprise the character Rick Deckard, who pursued rogue "replicants," human clones, in the dystopian future of 2019 Los Angeles. He previously called the script the "best thing he's ever read," according to Variety.
Scott will produce the sequel with Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson from Alcon.
"We are honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on 'Prisoners,'" Kosove and Johnson said in a joint statement. "Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn't be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team."
Ford will next star opposite Blake Lively in "The Age of Adaline," in theaters on April 24. He also returns as Han Solo in the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awaken," out in December.
