Is there a Heaven? Does the loch ness monster exist? What will Luke Skywalker's role in the new "Star Wars" film be?
These are the important questions humanity ponders and while some of them may still be up for debate, a few of them are becoming clearer. Details about Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker and his involvement in the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" have emerged. While these reports remain unconfirmed, we warn you now that they contain possible spoilers for the new film.
.......
A brave few still with us? Great.
Past rumors have hinted that Luke is in self-imposed exile in this new film as he guards an ancient Sith tomb that could be the key to the Dark Side's reemergence. Through his exile, Luke's mental state has potentially deteriorated though the jury is still out.
Now, Jason Ward of Making Star Wars is reporting that his role in the film is very minimal and is merely just a setup for his expanded influence later one. Here is Ward's outline of the final scene in the film.
"Rey walks up the stone steps. She comes up to a figure and puts the Lightsaber in his hand. Its Luke Skywalker.
"The End.
"That's what Luke does. He gets his lightsaber back. He apparently finds an apprentice. It appears Luke Skywalker is very much an artifact being saved for Star Wars: Episode VIII.
"Did they really have Mark Hamill on set all that time just to hang out and obscure his place in the film? Is that why Hamill was able to attend all of those events and stuff like that when need be? It would be good for that and good for letting the cast bond and it might explain why we never have any pictures of Luke Skywalker as he only filmed for a short amount of time."
Is it possible that Skywalker, maybe the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy, was brought back just for this? Well, if Disney has bigger plans for him down the road then it would make sense. But, it would still be a letdown for some fans if their original hero made nothing more than a cameo appearance in Episode VII.
