After days of torrential rainfall, a landslide in Zhongxing town in China's Sichuan province Wednesday buried around 30 to 40 people, according to the Chinese State news agency Xinhua.
More than 100 personnel with rescue dogs have been deployed in the landslide area, reported the media.
The landslide on Wednesday morning damaged at least 11 homes and the landslide spanned around two square kilometers, reported Xinhua.
"So far we only know 11 families were buried and more than 200 residents have been evacuated," AFP quoted a local official as saying.
The continuous rainfall in recent days has caused several floods in the country.
On Tuesday, a bridge in the province collapsed and 12 people went missing and six vehicles plunged into the river. Three other bridges reportedly collapsed in the area.
The flood has destroyed hundreds of homes and displaced many people, according to the Chinese media.
Zhongzing was badly hit during the 2008 Sichuan earthquake that left 90,000 people dead.
The recent floods have even wiped out a high-profile quake memorial in the region that the residents were able to open only last May.
