The Birdman will keep his nest in Miami.
Forward Chris Andersen has agreed to resign with the Miami Heat for another year, according to Yahoo! Sports citing league sources. There is no word on how much the team is offering him.
The Heat can officially sign Andersen today since the league wide moratorium on business was lifted at 12 a.m. on Wednesday.
Andersen was a huge piece in the Heat’s championship run last season, especially in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers. He provided an inside, defensive presence for a Heat team that doesn’t have a legitimate big man. The 34-year old Anderson had a stretch of 15 straight shots made during the Pacers series.
He averaged less than 15 minutes per game for the Heat but still put up five points and four rebounds per contest.
Andersen has made a name for himself around the league as a shot blocker and high-energy guy.
He has been in the league for 11 years, playing with the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Hornets before coming to the Miami Heat.
Andersen was out of the NBA from 2006 to 2008 after he was suspended for disobeying the league’s policy on substance abuse.
Andersen is not the only big man the Heat are looking to reel in. According to a report from ESPN earlier this month, the Heat are also looking at injury-plagued center Greg Oden. The Ohio State product has had knee issues for a majority of his career and hasn’t had a chance to make much of an impact in the NBA. However, he is a big body and still young at 25-years old.
Despite the Heat’s interest in the center, he feels the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs are his best options, according to ESPN’s J.A. Adande citing a source close to Oden.
