It hasn't even been a week since he won Best Actor at the Academy Awards and details of Eddie Redmayne's next on-screen transformation are here.

In "The Danish Girl," Redmayne portrays transgendered Danish artist Lili Elbe. The film is based on the 2000 David Ebershoff book of the same name. Elbe was born a man before becoming one of the first ever people to undergo a sex change, which she had in Germany, according to NY Daily News.

Elbe began to struggle with her sexuality after wearing women's clothes for a series of photos her husband took.

Tom Hooper, who worked with Redmayne on "Les Misérables," is directing "The Danish Girl," which hits theaters in 2016.

Redmayne won an Oscar at the 2015 Academy Awards for his role as Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything."
