If the battle between Apple and Microsoft could be simplified down to how many users each company had, it would be hard to argue that Microsoft isn't the winner. The wider availability of the Windows OS has made sure that Microsoft computers are on top. But the latest data predictions point to some big statistical shifts occurring in Apple's favor this year.
Tech firm Techanalysis Research released their predictions for what percentage of PC operating systems will sell in 2015. In a really interesting turn, Techanalysis predicts that 88.5% of computers sold in 2015 will be Windows-powered. This is a significant shift for Microsoft, since the company has not had less than 90% control of the market in a long time.
While this is a big data shift for Microsoft, very little has changed for Apple. Techanalysis believes that Apple will account for 6.9% of all computers sold. The only other notable computer OS would be the Google Chrome OS, which will account for only 2.9% of sales.
Frankly, this is a big shift. In the last five years, Apple has reestablished itself as a computer powerhouse and is leaving a notable mark on the international economy. The 2010 report reveals that Microsoft accounted for 94% of all computers, while Apple only account for 4.1%, and Linux accounted for 1.9%.
But Techanalysis doesn't think the sales numbers are done shifting. They expect Apple to have 8.6% control of the market, while Chrome has 2.9% and Microsoft has 86.7%. Techanalysis expects to see about 300 million computer units sold each year from now until 2018, when things may shrink.
On a side note, Techanalysis also reports that they expect the phablet to put a notable dent in tablet sales in the upcoming years.
