Being transported back in time 20 years would throw most people for a loop, but for the character Becca Brady on VH1's "Hindsight," reliving her 20s with the perspective of a woman in her 40s has given her greater insight into the mistakes of the past.
"When you're 40, you have so much more knowledge of life and experience. You talk to 20-year-olds now, they think that have it and know it all," says Laura Ramsey, who plays the time-traveling leading lady.
The 34-year-old actress had the same naïve outlook on the world at that young age. Although she finds the hope from people just starting adulthood inspiring, she does question the age at which people are classified as adults.
"I remember telling my parents, 'I know what I'm doing. I'm 18 years old. You can't control me anymore, and now I'm thinking 18 is so nothing," she says. "You're considered an adult. I don't know who made that rule, but it should be changed. There's so much to learn."
"Hindsight" also found inspiration from '90s shows such as "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place." Ramsey also appreciated looking back at a simpler time of communication when people weren't always immediately available via cellphones or email.
"I like having more of a connection with people around you, the effort and commitment that you have to your friends. You don't have the technology of texting being able to not call somebody if you don't want to," she says.
Becca will give her greatest effort to staying committed to Lolly as the first season wraps up in a couple weeks. Ramsey expects the show to take her character on another rollercoaster of drama, but she's along for the ride.
"Wherever they want to take me, I'm happy for the challenge," she says.
"Hindsight" airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on VH1.
