LG has decided to not wait for this year's Mobile World Congress event to unveil its new smartwatches to the world.
The device, called the Watch Urbane, comes in two models: a regular version powered by Android Wear and a more advanced version called the Watch Urbane LTE, which lets you make and answer calls and text people without having to be connected to a phone, according to BBC News.
While the thinner, regular model comes with one side-button, a polished metal exterior and a smaller capacity battery, the more advanced model features a 4G chip, 1.3-in plastic OLED display, brushed stainless steel frame, and three buttons on the side.
One button serves as a panic alarm that, when pressed, sends information about the user's location to the recipient. The LTE version can also be used as a walkie-talkie with other compatible devices thanks to its push-to-talk facility. Being waterproof allows the device to be worn under water for up to 30 minutes.
The South Korean tech giant also added sensors to the Watch Urbane LTE for tracking the wearer's performance while hiking, cycling, working out and playing sports, The Verge reported. Other features include a built-in voice translator app and NFC connectivity that lets you make mobile payments with the watch. The watch also comes with its own phone number thanks to its extra connectivity, and users will need a second data plan.
LG plans on making the Watch Urbane available to smartwatch lovers in the U.S. and Europe by the end of April, and AT&T is the first carrier to confirm that it will sell the device. The Watch Urbane LTE is currently only confirmed to be available to consumers in South Korea in a couple of months, and price details on both watches have yet to be revealed.
LG wasn't the only company to unveil a new smartwatch before the Mobile World Congress, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain, BBC reported. China's Huawei introduced its own watch, which runs on Android Wear and comes with a screen made out of sapphire crystal.
