Lottery officials informed that since no one won the mega jackpot, the top prize has reached a record sum of $425 million for the next drawing.
Iowa Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer said the prize could go even higher than the estimated $425 million for Wednesday's drawing since lottery ticket sales have jumped ahead of the record drawings, an NBC News report said. According to the Powerball lottery's website, the winning numbers were 22-32-37-44-50 with Powerball 34 and there were 10 winners of $1 million and one winner of $2 million.
That was the fourth-largest jackpot in the game's history. The previous best jackpot prize was $365 million won in 2006 by eight ConAgra Foods workers on a single ticket in Lincoln, Neb. Ticket sales have been lower since Powerball doubled ticket price to $2 in January and as the largest jackpot ever for the game arrives now, ticket sales are expected to sour in this holiday season.
Powerball is played in 42 states including New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania along with the U.S. Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. Only California, Alabama, Mississippi, Hawaii, Nevada, Wyoming, Utah and Alaska do not participate in the multi-state game.
