Marvel’s Netflix Series ‘Daredevil’ Unveils Kingpin

Marvel's blockbuster movies over the last handful of years have been the biggest and most successful films by a long shot. Just take a look at the box office reports. Marvel dominates the tentpole franchise landscape and it's not really close. However, one area the studio has struggled in is creating interesting and lasting villains. Outside of Tom Hiddleston's Loki, many of Marvel's evildoers have been regrettably forgetful.

That could change with the upcoming foray into the small screen. Marvel's Netflix series "Daredevil" just released the first image of Vincent D'Onofrio ("Full Metal Jacket", "Law & Order") as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin.

Kingpin was previously portrayed by the late Michael Clarke Duncan in the 2003 film version of Daredevil. However, this television series is expected to differ from the film in look and tone. Based on comments from those involved, this imagining of the man without fear will be darker and more realistic. Many of D'Onofrio's most popular characters have existed in that vein.

"Marvel's Daredevil" will premiere all 13 episodes of its first season on Netflix on April 10. The show stars Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple) and others as they bring to life some of the most interesting characters in the Marvel universe.

It is expected that this series will eventually tie into the larger story lines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Daredevil and other characters possibly appearing in "Avengers: Infinity War - Part I" set for a 2018 release.
