If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
That seems to be AMC's thinking when it comes to original programming. AMC has gone back to the well with "Breaking Bad" spinoff "Better Call Saul" and the upcoming companion series to "The Walking Dead."
The latter project has been operating under the working title of "Cobalt." Very few details besides a few casting choices and shooting locations have been revealed. However, recent rumors have suggested a title and when/where fans might get their first look.
"The show is expected to air in 2015, but a new set of rumors from The Nerdist indicate we could be getting a double dose of one or more of these [new] characters," H. Shaw-Williams of ScreenRant.com wrote. "According to the report, at least one of the lead characters from Cobalt...will appear in a six episode arc in The Walking Dead season 6, which will arrive on TV screens in fall 2015. This means that AMC could be planning to alternate episodes of Cobalt and The Walking Dead with Cobalt acting as a kind of flashback for the character(s) - or The Walking Dead acting as a flash-forward, depending on how you look at it.
"As for the title, The Nerdist claims that the show will be called Fear the Walking Dead and reiterates that it will be a prequel rather than a sidequel, set in LA during Rick's coma days."
Shows have tried using its existing format as a launching pad for a spinoff before. These attempts have been met with varying degrees of success. However, given the immense popularity of "The Walking Dead", it's probably safe to assume that its prequel will draw significant interest, at least in the early goings.
