Another Hollywood fashion scandal has come to an end-- Lupita Nyong'o's missing Oscar dress has reportedly been returned to the crime scene. But with one scandal's end comes another's beginning.
According to TMZ, the thief contacted the site and told them the pearls on the dress are fake - Yes "FAKE."
The thief said he stole the dress only after he noticed that the door of the actress' room was slightly open. He took two pearls off the dress and brought them to the garment district in downtown Los Angeles where he was told the pearls were fake.
The thief said he called TMZ about the stolen dress because he wanted the world to know about "Hollywood's fake bulls--t."
The Los Angeles Sheriffs Department reported on Friday that the Calvin Klein dress that the actress wore to the 2015 Academy Awards was found after it was stolen from her room at the London West Hollywood Hotel earlier last week.
The gown is valued at $150,000 and covered in more than 6,000 (real or not real) pearls.
Detectives reportedly received a call that claimed the dress was in an abandoned bathroom on the second floor of the London Hotel. Detectives found a black bag underneath the counter with a white gown "resembling the one worn on Oscar night by Lupita Nyong'o," Sgt. Richard C. Bowman wrote in a press release, according to Access Hollywood.
No arrests have been made. Police are working with the fashion label to confirm the authenticity of the dress.
"Collaborating with Francisco for my Oscar dress this year was such a special and unforgettable experience," Nyong'o said. "I'm happy that it has been potentially recovered. It is a timeless and priceless piece of art."
"All of us at Calvin Klein are thrilled to know that the dress has potentially been located," Francisco Costa, Women's Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection, who designed the dress, said to Women's Wear Daily. "This was an amazing collaboration between the brand and Lupita and the dress looked truly exquisite on her. Once it's returned to us, we will be able to have the dress restored and archived, as it now represents an important moment for the brand."
