Drew Goddard will transition from writing a movie about the Sinister Six to writing a movie about the Sinister Six... and Spider-Man.
Marvel has tapped Goddard to write and direct the first Spider-Man movie for the studio under the new deal with Sony Pictures, according to The Latino Review. Marvel President Kevin Feige reportedly wants a three-part series under the title, "Spectacular Spider-Man."
The film will incorporate the Sinister Six with the possibility of later spinning it off. The new movie will eliminate the origin story and Spider-Man will enter already possessing his abilities. The story will be set in high school, which will allow the character (most likely played by an unknown actor) to grow into the role.
The Latino Review also teases "a major part of the first film will involve Spider-Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the "audition" to join the Avengers."
The studios will not start casting for a few more months until they iron out all the details.
Last week, Robert Downey Jr. teased a major announcement coming for later this week. It's not clear whether this report has spoiled that big news.
Marvel has scheduled the premiere of its first Spider-Man movie for July 28, 2017.
