Bidding wars for movie rights are a common practice in Hollywood, but it's not every day that industry big wigs fight over bringing a book that has been on shelves for only a few weeks to the big screen.
Luckily for war photographer Lynsey Addario, Warner Bros. is closing in on a deal to make her memoir "It's What I Do: A Photographer's Life of Love and War" (which was released on Feb. 5) into a movie. According to Deadline, Steven Spielberg is set to direct and Jennifer Lawrence will portray Addario.
Warner Bros. had some serious competition in winning the rights.
Working Title was attempting to get it for Reese Witherspoon, the "Black Swan" team of Darren Aronofsky and Natalie Portman were vying for it, "The Wolf of Wall Street" breakout star Margot Robbie was involved and The Weinstein Company was bidding for George Clooney to work on the film, according to Deadline.
Addario's work focuses on the effects war has on women. She has worked in Afghanistan, Libya, Cuba, Iraq, India and Israel and has been kidnapped twice, according to Time.
"I feel a huge pressure to be successful in communicating their trauma," Addario told Time. "I have to make sure that I take this information and disseminate it in a way that's useful to them in the long term; that will prevent other women from going through what they went through. I can't imagine not dedicating my life to trying to stop those things from happening."
Andrew Lazar is set to produce the film. He most recently produced the Oscar-nominated "American Sniper," which Spielberg was set to direct before Clint Eastwood ultimately did, according to Deadline.
