Apple Seeks to Add 6 More Samsung Devices To Patent Lawsuit

In an escalation of the ongoing patent war between the technology giants, Apple has asked a federal court to add six more Samsung products to its patent-infringement lawsuit. Filing court documents with the U.S. District Court, Apple has asked permission to include some of Samsung's flagship products such as Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Rugby Pro and Galaxy III Mini, reveals a Wall Street Journal report.

The latest appeal is about one of the two patent infringement lawsuits filed by Apple in the U.S. District Court in San Jose against Samsung.

"Apple has acted quickly and diligently to determine that these newly released products do infringe many of the same claims already asserted by Apple, and in the same way that the already-accused devices infringe," the Cupertino-based tech titan said in its filing, reports Bloomberg.

The latest suit is scheduled for trial in March 2014 and Apple said it is amending its existing lawsuit to add the products which the company believes infringe the same patents as the first lawsuit.

"If Apple were not allowed to supplement now, Apple would be required to bring an entirely separate suit against the new products, involving exactly the same patents, patent claims, and legal theories," the iPhone maker said in the filing.

The court had ordered the South Korean technology company to pay $1.05 billion to Apple in an earlier lawsuit. Apple's move is a swift replay to a Samsung action earlier this month by which it amended a complaint to add some of Apple's latest products such as iPad Mini, iPad 4, and iPod Touch 5 in its lawsuit.
