With her due date fast approaching, Kate Middleton is making last minute preparations for the arrival of the royal baby, and US Weekly has the exclusive details on how the Duchess of Cambridge is spending her final days before giving birth while Prince William is stationed as a Royal Air Force Search and Rescue pilot.
Safely enclosed in Kensington Palace, the Duchess recently left Anglesey, Wales to relocate to London to be close to St. Mary's Hospital, the same hospital where her late mother-in-law Princess Diana gave birth to Prince William.
"Kate has been sensible and stayed in London," a source told US Weekly. "She was so relieved that she did not go into labor early while in Anglesey with William."
If she had followed her early contingency plan, the Duchess would have been flown 70 minutes to St. Mary's Hospital via helicopter from Wales, a 277-mile journey that she has elected to scrap ahead of time. Barring any complications, Middleton plans to give birth naturally in the private Lindo Wing, and dozens of reporters are already camped outside in anticipation. The Duchess's due date is reportedly between today and July 13, though there has no confirmation from the palace on what exact date she is expected to give birth.
The source explained that even though Prince William has been fulfilling his duties, he has also "been with Kate as much as possible, coming up to be with her whenever he is off shift...Much of that time was the two of them at Kensington Palace."
As for when the Prince is on duty, the insider adds "there will always be another family member with Kate," including her devoted mother Carole and sister Pippa who visit her frequently. "Everyone is helping out."
Being a pregnant military wife can be difficult, as at times the Duchess has felt lonely with her husband away, though she has been keeping herself busy with preparations for the royal baby's nurseries, carefully selecting furniture, drapes and items that revolve around a herringbone brown color palette, all with clean, simple lines to reflect her own personal style.
The Duchess has made sure to keep as healthy as possible during her pregnancy, even giving up her beloved caffeine and forgoing her high-impact exercise routines. Instead, Middleton takes brisk, early-morning walks with her dog Lupo and prenatal yoga classes with a private instructor who has been said to visit the palace weekly.
You may be surprised to know that in addition to learning Photoshop, Middleton has attempted to learn knitting. "I'm really bad!" she admitted recently, though the skill may come in handy when the baby arrives.
"Catherine and William are very much looking forward to the arrival of their son or daughter," a Palace aide told the gossip magazine. "It's a very exciting time for the couple and their families."
