Next Monday is a big day for Apple Fans. On March 9, 2015, Apple CEO Tim Cook will finally release all the details regarding the Apple Watch, including prices, release dates and the final device specs. However, Cook wasn't willing to wait to release all the details.
During a recent visit to Germany, Cook released a lot of information about the apps that Apple Watch will host in the near future. According to Apple9to5, Cook visited the Apple Store in Berlin and confirmed the employee's suspicions that the watch would arrive all over the world some time in April. Cook also revealed details about a number of apps that users should expect on the Apple Watch on the first day.
Cook first mentioned apps that would let you use the NFC chips in their Apple Watches to unlock hotel doors. The only chain that Cook did mention was Starwood Hotel, whose app we had heard about during the first Apple Watch presentation.
Cook told the employees that he was excited about an upcoming series of third-party health and fitness apps that will use the Apple Watch's updated health features to great effect. These apps will come out alongside the Apple-developed Workout and Activity apps.
Cook also mentioned that Panera was developing an app that would let users pay for their food with their watch as well. This makes a lot of sense, considering that Panera was an early adopter of Apple Pay when it was announced last fall.
Finally, Cook mentioned that Salesforce.com is currently in the process of developing apps for the Apple Watch. It's unclear what exactly those apps will do, though Salesforce.com has been a long-time partner of Apple.
9to5Mac notes that "With the Apple Watch not having a single major feature, third-party applications and customizability will be critical to the product's success," adding that viewers should expect to see a lot of these third-party apps demoed at next week's event.
