Actor Daniel von Bargen, who is most famous for his role as Mr. Kruger on the final season of "Seinfeld," passed away on Sunday at the age of 64, according to Cincinnati's news station WLWT.
"We are learning of this event at the same time as the rest of the industry and are deeply saddened to hear of Daniel's loss," Von Bargen's voice-over agents at Access Talent told People Magazine in a statement. "Although we represented Daniel to the Voice Over Industry for many years, for the past five years he had been grappling with health issues that precluded his active pursuit of work in this area."
Von Bargen was reportedly a diabetic and had been suffering an undisclosed illness at the time of his death. The International Movie Database said that the actor died of complications from diabetes.
In February 2012, the actor was hospitalized after a failed suicide attempt. Reports claim that von Bargen tried to shoot himself in the head after learning that he needed to have several toes removed due to his diabetes.
"We remember him fondly for his easy-going professionalism and dry wit, both of which stood in stark contrast to the driven and near-maniacal roles he often performed with such energy and intensity," they continued. "He was a joy to work with and we have missed that association since his semi-retirement to Cincinnati."
Von Bargen's friend, Bob Colonna, also commented on the actor's death, saying, "I feel a huge wave of sorrow and relief at the passing of this remarkable man, Dan Von Bargen. I treasure the years when I worked with him at Trinity Rep and in a couple of TV films. I admire his excellent body of work in the movies. And I mourn for the darkness and pain that were his final years. God bless him. He was a hell of a guy."
The Cincinnati native played Commandant Edwin Spangler on "Malcolm in the Middle" and has appeared on "NYPD Blue," "The West Wing" and "Law & Order." The actor also appeared in several movies including "Broken Arrow," "Super Troopers," "Robocop 3" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
