Yasiel Puig to Sign with Roc Nation? Jay-Z Interested in the Young Cuban Star

The recent success of Dodgers young outfielder Yasiel Puig has piqued the interest of many analysts and fans of baseball. It has even piqued the interest of multi-platinum recording artist and blossoming agent Jay-Z.

The rapper, whose agency is called Roc Nation Sports, is trying to sign Puig, according to Yahoo! Sports citing two sources.

One source said, the Cuban star was traveling to New York in June when he was invited to a party taking place at a club owned by Jay-Z. He attended the party after the rap artist’s contact information was handed to Puig.

In addition to Roc Nation, the prospective all star has also met with one other agency in New York. However, according to one source the baseball contract and marketing possibilities Roc Nation could offer makes the agency a candidate for Puig’s business.

Jay-Z has already singed some big names since starting the agency. Yankees all star second baseman Robinson Cano left renown baseball agent Scott Boris to sign with Roc Nation. Other of the agency’s clients include Oklahoma City Thunder scoring machine Kevin Durant, New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith, and WNBA Rookie and former Notre Dame star Skylar Diggins. While Jay-Z sits in on the meetings and owns the company, his CAA partners most likely take care of the actuall contracts.

A source also reports Jay-Z is looking into a second Cuban player, Oakland Athletics left fielder Yoenis Cespedes. Cespedes is a young building block for the Athletics and is having a good season with 15 HR and 42 RBIs. He will also be in the Home Run Derby on Monday as a part of Cano’s American League team.
