Fourteen-month old Sorella Stoute managed to successfully bid on a rundown 1962 Austin Healey Sprite on eBay while playing with her father's iPhone last month, the Daily Mail reports, and it may surprise you to learn what her parents decided to do with it.
Her father, Paul Stoute, learned of the accidental purchase after receiving an email from eBay congrulating him on his winning $225 bid. His daughter "decided to open the eBay app, and started clicking around and one thing led to another and we own a car," he told KOIN News while laughing.
The Portland, OR parents had an "initial panic" after making the discovery. "What do we do? We can't really afford it' kind of thing," they said to KOIN News, as they were not sure if they could afford the rundown car, as it needed a lot of work.
When they made their decision on what to do, they called Sorella Stoute's grandmother, Carlene Stenejhem, telling her that their toddler had just purchased a car.
"I said, yeah, right," Stenejhem said to KOIN News. "And she said, no, Sorella bought a car on eBay and we have to buy it."
Not only did the couple decide to keep it, but they plan to restore it in time for their Sorella's 16th birthday. Whether she likes it or not, Sorella has bought herself her first car at age one.
"I've done a lot of body work in the past, like bondo and stuff like that," her dad said. "But this is another realm altogether. I'm just glad she didn't buy the $38,000 Porsche I was looking at."
"It comes with two engines. They're both in the back seat," his wife, Christiana, told FOX 12 of the car they bought from the previous owner, who luckily lives in a nearby town, thus making it easy for the family to get the car to them.
Just in case Sorella gets the shopping bug again, Paul Stoute has activated facial recognition technology on his phone and has a new PIN.
