Minnesota Vikings RUMORS: Spielman Eyeing Nebraska's Randy Gregory In 2015 NFL Draft?

As it looks right now, Anthony Barr and Teddy Bridgewater were absolute home run picks for the Minnesota Vikings in last year's NFL draft.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman gets high marks for his most recent draft effort - the seventh of which he has presided over during his tenure in Minnesota.

The question is, can Spielman follow up one strong draft with another?

To that end, the Vikings, slated to select 11th in next April's first-round, were paying very close attention to a top prospect at Nebraska's Pro Day on Thursday.

"The Minnesota Vikings have spent an extensive amount of time with Gregory before the start of today's workout," reports Tony Pauline of Draft Insider.

Gregory is one of the top defensive prospects in the upcoming draft.

While he's viewed mostly as a 3-4 outside linebacker per-draft, Gregory has the length and frame to add weight.

"He can win in a multitude of ways as a pass rusher," said NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah. "He can beat you with that pure speed off the edge. He can convert speed to power, which you wouldn't expect from someone who is so lean. He also has a nice inside counter move."

Gregory, 6-foot-4, 235-pounds, was moved all around the formation for the Huskers in order to get the best matchups.

"He's super raw, but those physical tools are through the roof. That's why you pay coaches," an NFC scouting director told NFL.com.

With Barr and Everson Griffen on the roster, the need for another pass rusher isn't exactly glaring for Minnesota. But when you play in a division that boasts quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford and yes, even Jay Cutler, you can never place too high of a premium on players who generate a consistent pass rush.

Just for fun, check out this picture - Gregory recently participated in ESPN's Sports Science program and promptly decapitated the dummy the show uses test the strength and power of players.

Whether he falls to 11 or not will be debatable - Jeremiah currently has him ranked as his sixth-best prospect overall - but if the Vikes are smitten, they can most likely find a way to get their hands on the lean, tough edge rusher.
