DC RUMORS: ‘Supergirl’ Crossover With ‘Arrow’ & ‘The Flash’ Not Possible; Superman Making TV Appearance?

Showrunner Greg Berlanti began filming for the upcoming CBS series "Supergirl" today. If Berlanti's name sounds familiar, it's because he is also one of the main creative forces behind The CW's "Arrow" and "The Flash."

Because all three shows share a lot of the same behind-the-scenes talent and because shared universes are all the rage in comics entertainment these days, many fans have speculated whether or not "Supergirl" will cross over with any of DC's other television properties. Berlanti himself has said he is open to the idea, casting the first optimistic stone.

However, the logistics of such a move would be difficult. DC's television properties are spread all around the airwaves. Although The CW is owned by CBS Corporation and Warner Bros., building a bridge between it and CBS would be very difficult.

"The problem is that crossing over two heroes on the same network is one thing, but crossing over three different superheroes on two different networks may prove to be more complicated for both the CW and CBS than the networks believe is worth the effort," Alex Welch of ScreenRant.com wrote.

Don't get too down, though, DC fans. You could be in store for an even more powerful team-up instead.

"Not to mention that all signs are pointing towards Superman existing within the same universe as his Kryptonian cousin, meaning Supergirl may already have its fair share of superpowered beings on its roster," Welch wrote.

That's right; the Man of Steel himself has been rumored to make an appearance in the small screen spectacle. Series developers released a report recently that acknowledged that the villain for the pilot episode had battled against Superman in the past, raising debate about whether or not they could use him to boost ratings in cameo appearances like Marvel's "Agents of SHIELD" does with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury.

Will it actually come to fruition? That's anyone's guess at this point.
