Panama became an early favorite in Group A after a solid performance in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, David Salazar of LatinosPost.com reports. The squad further cemented its spot as a favorite by defeating Mexico in the opening Gold Cup match.
The squad's patient defense stifled Mexico. Panama appeared in no hurry to attack, but when the team did, it scored on both of its shot attempts.
Martinique enters its second Gold Cup match with a win under its belt, too. The team dictated much of its match against Canada, but needed a goal in the 93rd minute to earn the victory.
With both teams having three points, Tuesday's match becomes important in determining which squad takes the early lead in Group A. Martinique arguably has the tougher schedule ahead of it, given that Panama has already met and defeated Mexico. Six points in the group stage will go a long way in increasing the odds of the winning team advancing to the knockout rounds.
LatinosPost predicts Panama to win, 2-1.
