Microsoft, Apple, Google Send Legal Brief In Support of Marriage Equality to Supreme Court

While the issue involving marriage equality and LGBT may seem like a non-economic one, it has affected a lot of businesses. Many businesses have been sued for choosing not to service a gay couple's wedding. On top of that, companies like Apple and Starbucks have come out in support of LGBT marriages, while companies like Chik-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby have done their best to defend traditional marriage. However, a large collection of companies are now teaming up to make same-sex marriage legal across America.

379 of America's biggest companies are doing what they can to convince the Supreme Court that they should vote for marriage equality, according to Engadget. The collective recently submitted a amici-curiae (better known as a friend-of-the-court brief) in support of marriage equality. This comes in light of the Supreme Court's upcoming case, where they will hear arguments for and against the legalization of same-sex marriage.

According to the brief, the 379 businesses believe that enabling SSM would help them provide employees with the best possible benefits. It would also help them keep LGBT employees, since they wouldn't have to leave the state/company in order to get married. The brief also states that "State laws that prohibit or decline to recognize marriages between same-sex couples hamper employer efforts to recruit and retain the most talented workforce possible in those states."

This business alliance includes notable tech companies such as Apple, Comcast, Dropbox, eBay, HP, Microsoft, Twitter, Verizon and Zynga.

The Supreme Court will consider arguments for and against legalizing same-sex marriage in April, and will issue a ruling on the issue before the end of the term in June.
