It's been a long two years since "30 Rock" ended, but Alec Baldwin is finally returning to the small screen.
The actor is set to play the role of Joe Byrne, a wealthy New York City man who is "unexpectedly rocketed into NYC politics when tragedy strikes the incumbent mayor," on an unnamed HBO series, according to Deadline.
On paper it sounds slightly similar to Baldwin's beloved character Jack Donaghy on "30 Rock," which he won two Emmys and three Golden Globes for, but the series that will run for at least one season will be a drama. He described his character as "Trump without the baggage, Bloomberg but a Democrat."
According to the Deadline report, the show will be shot in September in New York City and explore "celebrity and the political landscape"-- not as seriously as Netflix's "House of Cards" though.
Baldwin will be an executive producer, along with Cary Brokaw, who won an Emmy in 2004 for his production work on "Angels in America."
"Cary and I were going to do this together nine years ago, but I got detoured by Lorne Michaels and Tina Fey into '30 Rock,'" Baldwin told Deadline.
