Ireland's 2-1 record has them in fifth place in the Pool B standings. After winning two straight, Ireland lost to South Africa on Tuesday by a staggering 201 runs. They struggled offensively, with Andrew Balbirnie and Kevin O'Brien leading the team with 58 and 48 runs, respectively. On the bowling front, Ireland managed to take only four wickets.
"You've got to put (the loss against South Africa) behind you pretty quickly," Ireland skipper William Porterfield said, via CricBuzz.com. "The tournament's back-end fixtures come pretty quickly. Every game is a two-pointer for us and Hobart is no different. Two points are up for grabs and they are a pretty big two points for us. Whatever the outcome of Saturday's match, it will do well to match the excitement of Ireland and Zimbabwe's only previous World Cup encounter when the teams played out a thrilling tie at Sabina Park, Kingston, during the 2007 edition in the Caribbean."
Zimbabwe, meanwhile, is one place behind Ireland with a 1-3 record. Sunday's 20-run loss to Pakistan marked Zimbabwe's second straight loss. Brendan Taylor led Zimbabwe with 50 runs, and Elton Chigumbura and Sean Williams scored 35 and 33 runs, respectively.
"We feel we are 80 percent there," said Zimbabwe's Brendan Taylor. "We think if we can close that gap a little bit more, I think we are heading in the right direction for a good win against Ireland."
