Anyone who watches Fox's "Gotham" has probably thought that Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney is likely not long for Jim Gordon's world. You can't repeatedly start wars with rival mob bosses, criminal organizations and crazed doctors without any repercussions. Now, it appears as if that speculation has been unofficially confirmed. Smith recently announced that she will not be returning for the second season of "Gotham," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"I don't think so, no," she said when asked about her future with the show. "I signed for a year and the year is up. But there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There's a lot of good stuff coming."
This doesn't necessarily mean that Smith's character will be killed off in the series. But it would be a fitting end for a career criminal whose ambitions extend far beyond her reach.
"She could show up anywhere, you never know!" Smith said.
Mooney unsuccessfully made a power grab against Falcone (John Doman) that ended in her abduction by the Dollmaker (Colm Feore). She is currently a prisoner at his facility acting as his right-hand woman. Whether or not her storyline ends in her death or her escape is anyone's guess at this point.
"Gotham" marked Smith's first return to the small screen since her medical drama "Hawthorne" aired on TNT from 2009-2011.
