Oscar winner Octavia Spencer is set to play the role of God in the film adaptation of William P. Young's 2007 novel "The Shack."
According to Variety, Spencer is in "final negotiations" to have the lead role in the Stuart Hazeldine directed project.
Young's novel is centered around the abduction of a young girl on a family vacation. Four years after her disappearance, her father receives a note from God with instructions to go back to the shack where authorities first found evidence of his daughter's murder. What he discovers at the shack changes everything.
The book has sold more than 10 million copies in the U.S., 18 million worldwide and has been printed in 39 different languages, according to Variety.
Spencer won an Academy Award in 2011 for her supporting role as Minny Jackson in "The Help."
