Trinidad & Tobago meet Haiti on Friday in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The match starts at 7 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream HERE.
Each team looks to improve its standing in Group B — Trinidad & Tibago (T&T) landed draw with El Salvador in its first match, and Haiti suffered a 2-0 loss to Honduras in its opener. Friday's match gives each team a stance to stay competitive in the group by winning three points.
Despite giving up two scores in its previous match, the defensive unit for Haiti is solid, LatinTimes.com reports. Mechak Jerome, who has professional experience with Sporting KC, is the staple of Haiti's defense. Jeff Louis and Jean-Jacques Pierre round out the talent on defense.
The biggest concern for Haiti is scoring, LatinTimes.com reports. Haiti went scoreless against Honduras, and the team's offense appears unable to consistently create pressure on offense. Leonel Saint-Preux and Jean Philippe must carry the burden of creating offense if the team wants a shot at earning three points on Friday.
While Haiti sits at the bottom of the group, T&T put itself in a better position by snagging one point in its draw against El Salvador. T&T is in its eighth Gold Cup tournament, and is primed to get its first victory in the Cup.
Behind the efforts of Carlos Edwards and Kenwyne Jones, T&T came back from trailing 2-1 late in the game against El Salvador to force a draw. The squad will look for more clutch play from Jones, who scored the game-tying goal against El Salvador.
T&T's offense has proven effective, but it'll have its hands full with the stout defense of Haiti. Unless Haiti can generate offense, T&T should walk away with the win.
My prediction: T&T wins, 2-0.
