Houston Texans RUMORS: Brian Hoyer Added In NFL Free Agency?

The Houston Texans have struggled to adequately fill the quarterback position since their inaugural season and the ill-fated selection of David Carr first-overall in the 2002 NFL Draft.

The list of players to fill the position has been a long and immeasurably disappointing one. Matt Schaub provided a few seasons of uplifting play and T.J. Yates surprised everyone for about three games, but otherwise, the signal-caller position in Houston has seemingly been cursed.

Don't tell that to Brian Hoyer, reportedly set to become the next quarterback to join the Texans organization.

"QB Brian Hoyer is going to be a Houston Texan per sources," tweeted Dianna Marie Russini.

Last season with the Cleveland Browns, Hoyer completed 242 passes on 438 attempts for 3,326 yards and a 55.3 percent completion percentage.

He appeared in 14 games, holding off first-overall pick and petulant man-child, Johnny Manziel.

Hoyer will never be mistaken for the next Johnny Unitas, but he's a solid veteran with a good, if not great, arm and a winning attitude.

He's not a great pickup and won't be handed the starting job outright - Ryan Mallett may resign with the team - but in a thin quarterback market - Mark Sanchez was widely considered the top guy heading into the offseason (yeesh) - Texans head coach Bill O'Brien did about as well as he could.

Hoyer is a legitimate starting quarterback who can win games in the NFL. He now allows the Texans and GM Rick Smith a ton of flexibility heading into NFL free agency and the 2015 NFL Draft.

He doesn't have to force a move at the quarterback position and Hoyer can keep the seat warm while the organization grooms a mid-to-late-round quarterback if they so choose.
