A Pennsylvania teenager was found dead Sunday afternoon less than a week after he was last seen going to school to take care of overdue homework, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.
The body of 13-year-old Cayman Naib, who disappeared last Wednesday, was found half covered in snow in a creek not far from his home in Newtown Township, a spokeswoman for the Delaware County District Attorney's office told the newspaper.
Representatives for Cayman's parents, Farid and Becky Naib, announced the grim discovery on a Facebook page titled "Find Cayman."
"It is with a heavy heart that we share news that the family has just learned through the search and rescue team and local law enforcement that Cayman has been found deceased," the post reads.
"We would ask at this point that the family be given the privacy and quiet that they need to grieve, heal, and to support their daughter."
Newtown Township police confirmed the missing teen was found in Darby Creek but would not comment on a manner of death or give any other details, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.
Cayman was reported missing after leaving his home at around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. His family said he left after receiving an email from his school, Shipley School in Bryn Mawr.
"Cayman left within 30 minutes after he received an email from school regarding over due home work (we do not blame the school) and most probably did not do any pre planning," the Naibs wrote on Facebook.
It's not clear where the eighth-grader went or what happened in the four days he was missing. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
Nearly 200 people gathered Sunday night at a candlelight vigil for Naib, described by teachers and peers as a generous person who never hesitated to make others feel welcome.
"He was bright and personable and liked to think out of the box," Shipley School Head Steve Piltch told the newspaper. "He was always reaching out to people."
