Editor Shelly Shapiro revealed recently that the upcoming Star Wars novel "Lords Of The Sith" will introduce the first canonical LGBT character in the galaxy far, far away, A.V. Club reports.
Shapiro noted that Paul S. Kemp's book will introduce an Imperial named Moff Mors, whom Big Shiny Robot surmises as a character "who has made some very serious mistakes but she is an incredibly capable leader and spends much of the book working hard to prevent absolute failure. She also happens to be a lesbian."
"This is certainly the first [LGBT] character in canon," Shapiro said of Mors. "But there was a gay Mandalorian couple, so it's not brand new." However, the couple she spoke of appeared in the Legacy Of The Force novels which have since been jettisoned from true Star Wars lore.
The distinction of this new character being certified in the larger canon of Star Wars is important because Disney announced shortly after its purchase of LucasFilms that the Expanded Universe will not be considered official Star Wars material. Going on the official record with a lesbian character is a big step forward for equal representation in the Star Wars universe.
