After more than five months of waiting, Apple has finally revealed more details about the newest addition to the Apple tech family, the Apple Watch.
The Watch will come in three editions: The Apple Watch Sport, the Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Edition. The Sport will come with an anodized aluminum case, the Watch will have a stainless steel case, and the Edition will have a 18-karat gold case that comes in either yellow or rose. The device has an 18-hour battery life and can be charged with a magnetic cord.
OS-wise, the system is fairly similar to what reports have shown. The Watch holds a variety of apps and can act as an interface, a notification center and a fashion accessory. For example, the device can act as a speaker for your phone, a messaging platform and much more. The device also incorporated the Digital Touch feature, which allows users to transfer drawings, sensations and even their heartbeat to another Apple Watch.
Despite earlier reports, the Apple Watch is a fairly strong fitness tracker. Not only will the device track calories, motion and time spent sitting/standing, the health side of the app can provide suggestions for health goals.
Apple also displayed a variety of apps for the Watch. For example, the presenter, Kevin Lynch, used the Watch to pay for groceries, open a garage, open hotel doors, request an Uber ride and view Instagram pictures. The majority of these apps only take a few seconds to use, which makes it easier to keep the device alive.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also released details about the cost of the Apple Watch, revealing that it will cost $349 for a 38-mm Apple Watch Spor, and $399 for a 42-mm Apple Watch Sport. The 38-mm version will cost anywhere between $549 and $1049 depending on the customer's choice of case and band, while the 42-mm Apple Watch will cost $599-$1099. Finally, the Apple Watch Sport will cost a heavy $10,000.
If users are looking to test and play with the Apple Watch, Apple will have pre-orders available on April 10, and the Apple Watch will be available for purchase on April 24.
