One U.K. man's meal turned into the stuff of nightmares when a caterpillar crawled out of the burger he was eating.
The 28-year-old, who did not want to give his name, was munching on a cheeseburger and fries at the British chain restaurant Ed's Easy Diner on Feb. 23 when he noticed something "funny," Chronicle Live reported.
"I looked down and I saw a caterpillar crawling out of the burger," said the customer, from South Shields, England.
"I was sick later that evening. I just couldn't believe it, it was like something from a nightmare," he said.
He captured footage of the hair-raising moment on video and took the matter to restaurant staff, who assured him the meal would be free.
A representative from Ed's Easy Diner said what happened "was an unfortunate but isolated incident at our diner in Gateshead," according to Chronicle Live.
"We took immediate steps to resolve the problem and are confident the diner is back to our usual exacting standards," the restaurant continued, adding that all lettuce leaves are washed individually.
"We invest considerable time and resource in maintaining the highest possible food hygiene standards and have an excellent track record."
The chain also gave the man a 50 pound, $75, voucher and offered to donate 100 pounds, $150, to the charity of his choice. But the grossed-out customer said he'd rather all the money go to charity and has vowed never to return again.
"I'd rather they give 150 (pounds) to charity, I've not thought which yet but possibly a wildlife one," the customer said.
