Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade called out center Hassan Whiteside after the 7-footer was ejected for the second time in less than a week. UPDATE: The NBA suspended Whiteside for one game as a result of the ejection, according to Yahoo Sports.
Officials ejected Whiteside Monday night for a Flagrant-2 foul on Boston Celtics center Kelly Olynyk, marking Hassan's second ejection in less than a week after his scuffle on Wednesday with Phoenix Suns center Alex Len. Whiteside has already accumulated $40,000 in fines and eight technical fouls this season, according to the Sun-Sentinel, and it's appearing to wear thin on his teammates.
"He's had enough veteran advice," Wade said after Monday's 100-90 loss to Boston, according to the Miami Herald. "There comes a time where you have to do it yourself. There's only so many words people can continue to say to you. You gotta do it. Not for you, you got to do it for the other guys you see in here sacrificing - that you see out there playing hurt and all the things you see going on. You're part of a team. You're part of an organization.
"We all have our moments, selfish moments, but you can't continue to keep having them because you got to be reliable, and you got to be able to be counted on. And right now, if he continues to act that way, then he's not reliable."
Wade's frustration likely stems from the fact Miami is only a half-game out from a playoff spot, and Whiteside's surprise breakout season (10.9 PPG, 9.8 RPG, 2.4 BLKPG) is a big reason for it.
Coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters he had addressed the incident with Whiteside.
"We're not turning our back on Hassan," Spoelstra said, via the Sun-Sentinel. "He's a family member. We're going to correct this with him and move forward. He understands how his actions affect the team. He wants to help us and be a part of this."
