Antonio Cromartie may have been second fiddle to Patrick Peterson in the Arizona Cardinals defensive backfield last season, but he'd be first-chair in the pigskin studio band with either the Dallas Cowboys or New York Jets, both teams reportedly pursuing the free agent-to-be.
Cromartie, per a report from Dom Cosentino of NJ.com, has whittled his list of potential NFL free agency destinations down to the Cowboys and Jets and has also not yet ruled out a return to the desert.
The 30-year-old Cromartie appeared in all 16 regular season games last season, finishing with 48 tackles, three interceptions and 10 passes defensed.
For both the Cowboys and Jets, Cromartie would slide right into a starting role on the outside.
In Dallas, Morris Claiborne has been a massive disappointment and Brandon Carr has underwhelmed since signing a lucrative free agent contract. Orlando Scandrick is a good, not great, player but can easily be upgraded.
As for New York, Kyle Wilson has failed to develop into a top-tier corner and Dee Milliner lost his rookie season to injury. The team finished with Marcus Williams and Darrin Walls as the top corners - not a recipe for NFL success.
Cromartie would immediately become the No. 1 cornerback for either franchise was he to sign.
Cromartie entered the league as a first-round pick of the San Diego Chargers in the 2006 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Chargers before chasing his first NFL pay day with the Jets, where he lingered for another four seasons.
For his career, he's amassed 373 tackles, 31 interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Cromartie made $2.25 million in base salary last season for the Cardinals and counted $4 million against the cap.
