It's been 30 years since "a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess and a criminal" spent weekend detention together in John Hughes' classic "The Breakfast Club." Now, Judd Nelson is far from his role as John Bender, the "basket case" of the group.
"I'm now that kid's dad," Nelson told TODAY's Savannah Guthrie on Tuesday, referring to his character in the film.
Nelson, who is on Fox's new hit series "Empire," appeared on TODAY with a full beard and graying hair, almost unrecognizable from his famous character in the cult classic, who wore a denim jacket and flannel.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie's release, it will be back in theaters on March 26 and March 31 nationwide, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Nelson is still grateful for the impact "The Breakfast Club" had on his career and on film in general.
"You always hope on every project that it's special, that it will stand the test of time, but you never really know," he said. "I'm surprised, but pleasantly."
