"Minecraft" is one of the most popular games in history, and has made its owners billions of dollars. It's also played by millions of kids all over the world. However, some people in Turkey seem to believe that the sandbox video game is "too violent".
Apparently the Turkey's Family and Social Policies Ministry argued that "Minecraft" is too violent and plans to submit a bill to Turkey's leadership asking for a ban on the software.
"The report prepared by the ministry's Children Services General Directorate was sent to its legal affairs department with an instruction for the legal process to ban the game to be started" a local Turkey paper says. The report also argues that the game encourages children to pursue "social isolation", which isn't healthy for a developing child. The Family Ministry does recognize that "Minecraft" is a creative outlet, but they seem to have a problem with how players have to kill certain monsters to get access to certain materials.
This policy decision is peculiar, since Turkey hasn't ever placed bans on game sales.
"[Turkey] has a bustling mobile-gaming market that is growing north of $500 million. And while most people play online in Internet cafes, the big consoles makers are also sell their systems in the country," VentureBeat reported. However, it isn't too surprising when you consider how Turkey once placed a ban on 4chan.com and Richarddawkins.com.
If Turkey wanted to place a ban on "Minecraft," it would have to get a Turkish court to agree with the Ministry about the website's dangerous state. The country would then place a ban on Minecraft.net, which is the website required to operate the game.
