Three Endangered Sea Turtles on Display At Sea Life Aquarium In Grapevine

Sea Life Aquarium In Grapevine, Texas, is the new home for three endangered sea turtles that have been injured and have been given a special tank.

Sea Life Aquarium located inside the large Grapevine Mills Mall, is the world's biggest aquarium brand housing more than 5,000 sea creatures over 30 different displays and a 360-degree underwater ocean tunnel. The Sea Life Aquarium is home to a vast variety of marine lives including shrimp, starfish, seahorses, sharks and rays. The Turtle Rescue Center, which was opened Thursday expands the marine Sea Life family to three injured sea turtles.

The Turtle Rescue Center includes a specially designed tank for the endangered turtles, which has secure amount of depth for the turtles to safely dive in. The visitors can get an eye-to-eye view of turtles Roxy, Squirt and Boomerang.

"We are excited to provide a home for these two incredible sea creatures [Roxy and Squirt] that will serve as ambassadors for sea turtle education and ocean conservation," said Iain Scouller, SEA LIFE Aquarium Grapevine General Manager, Examiner.com reports. "Along with learning more about sea turtles, we want SEA LIFE visitors to know that whether it's conservation or recycling, you don't have to live by the beach to make a difference for the creatures living in our oceans."

Before visiting these sea creatures, knowing a little bit of their history might be an add-on for the enthusiasts. Roxy and Squirt, both injured Kemp's Ridley sea turtles were rescued and rehabilitated by Animal Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) in Port Aransas. Conservationists found Roxy stranded off Mustang Island Gulf Beach in 2007 after it was severely injured with both left limbs bitten off and right limb suffering a large bite. Squirt was found stranded on the Padre Island National Seashore in 2009 with both her rear flippers paralyzed and a cracked shell, making it hard to dive. Small weights have been attached to help her in diving.

Boomerang on the other hand has an interesting history. She was rescued, rehabilitated and released but she kept coming back. Boomerang suffered a shell injury similar to Squirt, which made it difficult for her to dive. Small weights will be attached soon to help her dive in her new home.
