Apple and Samsung have had a rivalry going for quite some time. Between lawsuits over patents and competing one on one in the mobile smartphone market with the Apple iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy, the two seem destined to battle and scrape for market supremacy forever. Despite the feud, no rivalry is without it's own sense of humor.
According to a report by the Washington Post, a 25-year-old man was arrested after breaking into a wireless store in Springfield Va. The burglar escaped with several iPhones in a smash and grab heist. Unfortunately for the robber his master scheme was foiled when, police say, he left his Samsung Galaxy at the scene of the crime.
Fairfax County police arrested Travis Montgomery Snyder, 25, on Monday in Remington Va., after tracing the subscription on the Samsung Galaxy left behind at the thoroughly cleaned out iPhone retailer. According to the search warrant, the phone played a key role in apprehending the criminal.
In addition to the damning evidence of the criminal's phone being left at the crime scene, surveillance footage from DMW Wireless in the 7000 block of Spring Garden Drive also showed a man matching Snyder's description breaking into the wireless retailer, smashing a case and making off with several iPhones. Snyder's phone was found near the front door under some broken glass.
"No word on whether he was seeking an upgrade," the newspaper quipped.
According to Apple Insider, iPhones are often the target of theft because they retain their value and are relatively easy to resell. When iOS 7 comes out, Apple has worked to develop an activation lock designed to prevent thieves from being able to simply wipe and resell stolen iPhones. The new system works with the iCloud to require the owner to punch in an account password before reactivating the phone, even if a thief tries to wipe it first.
It's hard to place a winner in this situation. Do the kudos go to Apple for being a phone worthy of stealing, even as an Android user or to Samsung for being the hero and catching the bad guy? Tell us what you think below.
